46jimbo on Porting existing SO sim to new SO microsim

Customer service can do this for you. Persist and try again to get through to them. They can transfer everything to your new sim and you will lose nothing. Did you try phoning 1-866-310-1023?

Another solution is to go to a hole-in-the-wall cell phone shop and ask them to cut your old sim card to size. The guys near me did it for free. Even if they charge, is certainly going to be a lot cheaper than the $10 Speakout wants for a new smaller sim card.

Hi 46jimbo,
Yes I tried phoning several times and went through a convoluted voice manager system which eventually led to a dead end. But thanks for the tip about cutting the sim card.sf-cool_gif

My friend and I were having a discussion about SO's expiry dates and times and I was hoping someone out there could clarify. Let's say you have SO airtime/SIM that is set to expire on Dec 25th. Does that mean the air time expires at 12:01AM or 11:59PM on Dec 25? And is that local time or EST or some other arbitrary time zone? Does anyone know for sure?

In the end, I usually play it safe and add airtime the day before but I just wanted to see if anyone knew definitively the exact time.

Thanks.

You airtime is good for 365 days (including the day you activated it). If you activated airtime on December 25, 2013, it is good until December 25, 2014 11:59 pm (local time).

By law, you have a minimum seven-day grace period in order to “top up” your prepaid card account and retain your balance.

http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/info.....ht/t15.htm

I would top up before December 31st if I wanted to keep my balance. I think you are playing with fire if you stretch the grace period to the max.

Before this regulation, with another cell phone carrier, I topped up on the 26th of December, and the next year, on December 26th, I lost my balance, though a chat with a CSR restored my balance. So this grace period regulation is a good thing.

If your account says it expires on Dec 25, it will expire the first moment of Dec 25. I speak (unfortunately) from experience.

You may be able to call and talk them into reinstating it, but you may not. By all means, renew by Dec 24 and don't try to squeeze the last day out of it -- just not worth it!

Maven: When did you top up last? That minimum seven-day grace period law came into effect a little over a year ago, so it is somewhat new.

JamesA on How to clear voicemail notification?

I have a voicemail notification that won't go away, even though I have no voicemail waiting. I tried the usual measures like leaving myself another voicemail and then erasing it, and forcibly clearing the notification on my Android phone, but it just comes back as soon as I reconnect to Speakout. Any other ideas for getting rid of it?

Nevermind: leaving another voicemail does seem to have cleared it - it just took 30 minutes or so.

Does anyone know if speakout provides call forwarding? I can not find anything related on the website.

If not SO, can you recommend another prepaid provider, similar to SO, that have the call forwarding feature?

Call forwarding is not available with Speakout.

President's Choice mobile offer call forwarding. http://www.pcmobile.ca/prepaid.....atures.jsp It costs airtime, which can be expensive.

I think your best option for call forwarding is to get a Free Fongo VOIP account, http://www.fongo.com/ You can forward for free to most cities in Canada.

Kitty on How can I turn off my voicemail?

I'm being bothered by nuisance messages on my voicemail, and I'd like to turn it off, leaving my phone to ring endlessly in the ears of an unbalanced ex-friend. Is there a way I can do this? I don't really need voicemail anyway. Thank you for your help.

Mike on Hacked ?, spammed on voicemail

Okay, I'm new to cell phones. I got the phone for emergencies about 4 months ago and a 7/11 speakout sim card and both work great.
I was stranded on the highway last week and used the phone. I noticed there was a voicemail notification for 1-647-530-1107. It appears to be some sort of spam about using wireless or having a home phone.
The problem is, now everytime I turn the phone on, I get a new voicemail message from the same number listed as being at the same time I turn the phone on.
So far, I've wasted $20 airtime listening to the unending voicemail and deleting it. It's almost as if my phone is sending the message to my voicemail.
I checked the number online, and it appears it's happening to a number of 7/11 speakout users.
Any suggestions about what I can do?
Thank-you

Perhaps you can do a factory reset. Sounds like some type of malware.

Thank-you for the suggestion. I tried that and it had no effect. As soon as the phone booted after the reset, the same voicemail appeared.
Although the voicemail does show as 31/12/2014.

virbing on Replacing SIM

Hi. I am an ex-pat that travels back to Toronto about every 6 months. Last year, I bought a PayG SIM for my unlocked phone and used it while I was in Canada. I brought the SIM back with me and planned to use it when I visit next week, but I think that I may have lost the SIM.

Firstly, what do the SIMs look like? I have a plain white one that has some small printing on it, but I can't recall if that is the Speakout SIM. If it is, it doesn't seem to register down here in the US.

If I cannot find my SIM, can I purchase another SIM and transfer my account to the new SIM so that I can use the money in my account? Or will I have to start a new number and lose the balance in my account?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

You should have no problem transferring to a new sim you buy. I bought a new dual sim phone. Inserted the one sim I was using and transferred another account balance to the sim that came with the new phone.
As long as it had not been previously activated was the only stipulation. To prevent merging balances I imagine.

My Speakout sim card doesn't say 'Speakout' anywhere on it, so the one you have could be it. You will only know when you get back to Canada because it won't work outside of the country.

chrisyyk on Data plan works in Richmond but not North Delta

Hi I have just added a data plan in my Speakout account. My phone (Samsung Galaxy IIS) got Data signal (with H) in Richmond BC but not showing any data signal in Delta BC(North Delta, around the area of Hwy91 & Nordel Way). Is it normal? Is there anyone who has the similar experience? Or do I have to set up something? Thanks!
